Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Nio has surpassed 60 million battery swaps in its home market, only four months after it passed the 50 million mark.

As noted by local automotive outlet CnEVPost based on data from Nio’s own real-time charging and swap map, Nio surpassed 60 million battery swaps a few days ago, and as of writing, the number is already up to 60.2 million.

Nio boasts 2,802 battery swap stations across China, a number which is growing all the time: For comparison, at the time of CnEVPost’s writing, they recorded 2,785 battery swap stations in China.

It’s an impressive feat for Nio, which completed construction of its first battery swap station in Shenzhen back in May of 2018. With new stations being installed at regular intervals, it took 29 months to complete the first 1 million battery swaps, according to CnEVPost, with each successive million accelerating rapidly.

Nio has already expanded into Europe, with 59 Power Swap Stations located across five countries – Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark – which are accompanied by 26 Charging Stations consisting of 46 charging points, and connection to an additional 600,000 third-party chargers.

Nio also recently opened its first Nio House in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Nio House is the company’s flagship showroom, and the company’s new location in the Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates was opened at the end of November.

Nio hopes its first battery swap station in the MENA region will be operational by the end of next year.
