Janus Electric, a New South Wales based start-up that has developed technology to electrify trucks and use swappable batteries, has unveiled its first solar-powered battery swap station at the Moorebank Intermodal Precinct in Sydney.

Unveiled on Monday, the Janus ‘Charge and Change Station’ is the first of the company’s battery swap stations to be powered entirely by rooftop solar.

Capable of swapping the 2-metre by 1.2-metre batteries in just four minutes, a Janus converted electric truck with a single trailer can generally travel between 300 to 400 kilometres on a single battery.

The new battery swap station is also the first to be built at an intermodal terminal, which transfer freight between road and rail transport. Eight more Charge and Change Stations are located across Australia, with more to be unveiled in the future.

“Launching this solar-powered Charge and Change Station is a crucial step towards a cleaner, greener future for Australia’s transport sector,” said Lex Forsyth, CEO of Janus Electric.

“Janus Electric is at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation in Australia, offering cutting-edge solutions to help reduce carbon emissions in the heavy transport industry. Our Charge and Change Stations enable quick battery swaps for electric trucks, providing a convenient and eco-friendly alternative to traditional refuelling methods.”
