Last September, Tesla launched the refreshed Model 3 into the Australian market with just the RWD and the Long-Range variants.
Over a year later, customers of the latest long-range Model 3 variant can now get an acceleration boost, after Tesla added it as an upgrade to the Australian market app.
The latest upgrade allows the dual-motor Model 3 to improve its performance by shaving more than half a second off the 0-100 km/h sprint time, bring it down to 3.8 seconds from 4.4 seconds.
The news was first shared by EV enthusiast Roland on X.
This acceleration boost pack, which costs $3,000, can be purchased in the Tesla app by interested Model 3 Long Range buyers.
By adding this pack, it would bring the Long Range variant’s acceleration performance closer to the acceleration of Tesla’s flagship sedan in Australia, the Model 3 Performance.
On the 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance, acceleration times for the same 0-100 km/h sprint is 3.1 seconds, with a price bump of almost $13,000 over the Long Range with the now available acceleration boost option.
Pricing of the Tesla Model 3 dual-motor Long Range variant currently starts at $64,900, while the Performance variant is $80,900 before on-roads.
There is also a drop in range with the Performance variant, although both models use the same battery. That’s due to the Performance drive unit as well as larger 20-inch forged wheels which reduce the range by over 100 km on the Performance variant over the long range.
On top of that, the Performance variant gets Tesla’s “Track Mode” for those enthusiasts who aim to take the vehicle to a track and bump the top speed up from 201 km/h to 261 km/h.
The Long Range variant delivers 629 km of range when paired with the standard 18-inch Photon wheels.
So far Tesla has sold 14,475 Tesla Model 3 vehicles in 2024 with majority of these being the RWD. The latest upgrade could convince a few more buyers to consider the Long Range variant before the end of the year.
As of November, Tesla is also offering a $3,000 leasing bonus on the leasing of a new Model 3, with $3,000 taken off the price of a newly leased Tesla Model 3 if the sedan is leased before 20 December 2024.
On top of that, select Tesla Model 3 inventory vehicles, 2.99 p.a interest rate of 3.99 p.a. comparison rate is available.
The latest app update could help the brand gain some additional software revenue and also drive sales of the Long Range variant moving forward, especially when this variant with the acceleration boost its $13,000 cheaper than the Model 3 Performance while maintaining best-in-class range.
