MG has retained the title for having Australiaās lowest cost electric vehicle despite increasing the drive-away special pricing on its MG4 electric hatchback in November.
The pricing of the MG4 Excite 51 variant has increased to $32,990 from the all-time low in late September of just $30,990 driveaway.Ā
For this price, owners can get an EV with a 51 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which delivers up to 350 km of WLTP range.Ā Ā
That is paired with a rear-mounted 125 kW motor, which helps the car accelerate to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 7.7 seconds.
There is also vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and Android Auto & Apple Carplay, which is featured even in the base variant of the MG4.
Other variants include two mid-spec cars in Excite and Essence with a 64 kWh battery pack. These can deliver up to 450 km of range on a single charge, which is nearly 100 km more than the Excite 51 variant.
Both of these are also on special at the moment, with a factory bonus of up to $8,000 on offer. The same also applies to the variant with the biggest battery, the Long Range 77, as well as the dual-motor hot-hatch X-Power that can accelerate up to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
The MG4 is also the first in MGās electric line-up to use MGās Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) with a skateboard-like design and a rear-wheel drive powertrain paired with a thinner battery design.Ā
This model was first launched in 2023 and has helped the brand rake in nearly 7,000 sales as of the end of September.
Since then, October is the month where specials across the lineup really kicked in for the whole month and we are likely to see the impact of them in the coming days when October sales data gets released.
The base Excite 51, with the current offer still helps the MG4 keep its price below rivals such as GWM Ora and the BYD Dolphin.Ā
The GWM Ora has seen multiple price cuts as well but has a special national offer of $33,990 driveaway for the remainder of the year.Ā
On top of that, GWM is offering buyers of the Ora a free charger that is valued at $1,690 to sweeten the deal.
BYD Dolphin, on the other hand, has not seen any specials with prices starting at $39,241 driveaway in states like NSW. Thatās been reflected in recent sales, where the GWM Ora eclipsed BYDās hatchback sales in September.
Getting back to the MG4, itās by far the best-value electric car on the market and when comparing it to other hatchbacks including many ICE models, it delivers a convincing overall package.Ā
The recent price reductions will help keep used EV prices low on a relatively new model, making EVs accessible to more drivers across the country.
The MG4 also recently won the electric hatchback showdown on EV reviewer Tomās YouTube channel. This latest offer is expected to last until the end of November and is subject to dealer stock availability.
