Zeekr, a premium EV car maker,  has officially launched in the Australian market this week by offering an immersive cityscape track experience at the SXSW Sydney event held at the ICC.

The Zeekr X was unveiled in Australia in August with a pitched price point of $60,000. The actual pricing was released a month later, in September and was lower than expected, with the entry-level model starting at $56,990 before on-roads.

At the time of the pricing announcement, the brand also hinted at providing early adopters who pre-order by 31 October with a 12-month unlimited public charging offer. Now, it’s been confirmed that it will be on the Evie Network, which has over 260 charging locations across the country.

Along with this announcement, a preview of its second Australian-bound EV, a luxury people mover, the Zeekr 009, was unveiled along with some key specs.

Firstly, this vehicle will be available in a 7-seat or an exclusive 6-seat configuration. Powering these configurations will be a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain, packing 450 kW of power.

This is paired with a 116 kWh battery pack, making it one of the largest in any vehicle in Australia.

Given the luxury segment this EV will be catering for, some key features it packs include:

  • Nappa leather
  • 15.05-inch front display
  • 17-inch rear entertainment screen that can be viewed from the second row
  • 14-way Sofaro first-class aviation-type seats with built-in headrest speakers
  • 3000 Watt Yamaha surround sound system
  • Dual chamber air suspension with electromagnetic continuously controlled damping for a very comfortable ride

“With our innovative electric vehicles now available for purchase directly through our dealerships and previewed at pop-up locations nationwide, we’re bringing a unique blend of style, performance, and sustainability to drivers across Australia,” said Connal Yan, the head of Zeekr Australia.

“This moment showcases our commitment to pushing boundaries in sustainable mobility and sets the stage for an exciting future ahead.”

On the immersive cityscape track on the ICC rooftop in Sydney, visitors can – until October 20 – get a drive experience in the Zeekr X and Zeekr 009.  Those who attend can also go into a draw to win a free lease of a Zeekr X for six months.

Zeekr also announced its pop-up locations to see the brand’s vehicles in person across several parts of the country during Q4 this year.

  • NSW – World Square, 7th October to 30th November Castle Towers, 14th October to 26th November
  • VIC – Eastland, 14th October to 30th October
  • QLD – Westfield Garden City, 14th October to 30th November
  • WA – Karrinyup Shopping Centre, 7th October to 25th November DFO Centre, 4th November to 22nd November
  • ACT – 170 Melrose Drive, Canberra

The cityscape track experience is a great way to showcase cars to drivers considering EVs in a safe central spot.

The drive experience of both the Zeekr X and 009 people mover will happen in the coming months, and The Driven team will aim to bring that to you.
