MG has once again cut prices on Australia’s most affordable electric SUV, the MG ZS EV. This time on its mid-spec MY23 Essence variant which is now priced from $39,990 drive away.

This variant’s pricing includes all on-roads and was previously priced from $42,990 before on-roads costs. This is a saving of nearly $5,000, and makes it a very attractive offering.

The price reduction extends the price war among EV car makers amid stagnating sales in the Australian market. This week, Polestar and Jeep announced price cuts, and MG’s decision comes after its two slowest months for sales of the MG4 so far in 2024, although it remains the country’s fifth best selling EV for the year with 3,387 sales.

According to MG, the ZS EV Essence variant includes:

  • Front seat heating – driver and passenger
  • MG Pilot Driver Safety Technology
  • 10.1″ Multi-function colour touch screen Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Panoramic Glass Sunroof with Sunshade and Anti-Trap
  • 6 speaker audio with 3D sound effect

This pricing is expected to last until the end of September for vehicles sold and delivered in that period or while stock lasts.

MG now also offers an industry-leading 10-year or 250,000km warranty across its entire range. This is up from the 7-year warranty the company previously offered on its vehicles.Ā

New owners of the ZS EV Essence will also be eligible for the new warranty, making the ZS EV an even more compelling.

Last month MG cut prices on its entry-level MG ZS EV Excite variant by having it priced at $34,990 drive away. This made the car, the cheapest new EV to buy in Australia.

That price cut was expected to last the month of August but that has also been extended into September.Ā

At that price, it will undercut the GWM Ora, which has a starting price of $35,990 driveaway. In comparison, the very popular MG4 is currently priced in Victoria from $41,110 driveaway.

August’s price cuts helped the brand get over 170 sales of the ZS EV, making it one of the best-selling electric cars on the market during the month.

Currently, MG’s best-selling electric car is the MG4 hatch which has seen tremendous success in the local market, having sold over 3,300 units in 2024 so far.

With EV sales across the board stagnating, this pricing will ensure that the sales numbers for the ZS EV remain steady for the brand.
