The Swedish based EV maker Polestar has reduced the price of both its first electric car in Australia, the Polestar 2, and the forthcoming Polestar 4, as it prepares for the release and first handovers of the top end Polestar 3.
Polestar says the first shipment of the MY25 Polestar 2 variants have arrived in Australia, featuring new features, and more colour options. More importantly, the standard range single motor variant will now start from $62,400 before on roads, down from $67,400 for the MY24 variant.
The long range, dual motor variant of the Polestar 2, which with Performance Pack the company regards as its flagship variant, is now priced from $80,380.
And the pricing for the two variants of the Polestar 4, the electric SUV Coupe that is due in November, will now start at $78,500, before on roads for the standard single motor variant – a cut of $3,000.
The price of the long range Dual motor has been cut more – by nearly $5,000 – to $88,350, bringing it below the luxury car tax threshold.
The price changes comes ahead of a busy end-of-year for Polestar, which is poised to deliver the first of its Polestar 3 electric cars this month. These are priced at a much higher price point of $132,900 and $141,900.
“The latest Polestar 2 arrives as we start test drives and handovers of Polestar 3 and open our flagship Sydney North Space in Artarmon just ahead of the arrival of Polestar 4 in November,” said Scott Maynard, the head of Polestar Australia.
“The MY25 enhancements to Polestar 2, already one of the best equipped and exciting premium electric vehicles on the market, are another example of Polestar’s relentless pursuit to continually improve its cars for customers.
“We know many customers have been waiting for this new model year to arrive, and we look forward to welcoming them to Polestar as they start their ownership journey.
The MY25 upgrades to the Polestar 2 include two new exterior colours – Vapour and Storm – and a new 19-inch Aero alloy wheel with aero inserts as standard, and the new 20-inch Pro graphite alloy wheel option.
Adaptive cruise control is now standard across the entire Polestar 2 range, as is the Pilot Pack which now consists of Pilot Assist and Emergency Stop Assist. The Polestar 2 long range dual  motor variants also gain tinted rear windows and a 600-watt, 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.Â
The Performance Pack fitted to the 350 kW Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor means it can sprint from 0-100 km/h t in just 4.2 seconds and features performance-focused, adjustable Ohlins shock absorbers and Brembo brakes. The WLTP driving range is 546km.
Polestar says it has sold more than 5,000 of its Polestar 2 electric fast-backs in Australia and expects to launch the Polestar 5, an electric four-door GT and Polestar 6, an electric roadster in the next year or two.
