One of BYD’s highly anticipated EV models, the upcoming Sealion 07 EV, has had a bump up in its DC fast charging speeds, helping it charge from 10-80% in just 25 minutes.
In a video, the company shared on its Weibo page, it showcases the speed of the new Sealion 07 charging time of just 25 minutes to get from 10-80%, while the occupants of the car shop were in a supermarket.
This is 15 minutes quicker than the current 2024 BYD Seal which charges from 10-80% in 40 minutes.
The Sealion 07 is then shown to charge from 80-100% in another 18 minutes, bringing the total charging time to 43 minutes.
In the video, the company also shows charging speeds of 175.3 kW at a 10% state of charge. For comparison, the current Seal has a peak charging speed of 150 kW.
The translated caption of the video states: “10%-100% SOC fast charging only takes 43 minutes to fully charge anytime, anywhere,”.
According to the video, the Sealion 07 being charged has the larger 87.62 kWh while a smaller battery version with 73.5 kWh is also available.
This battery pack is capable of delivering NEDC range of up to 600 km, or closer to 500 km of WLTP range. The smaller pack can deliver up to 540 km of NEDC range.
BYD’s Sealion 7 features the company’s newest e-Platform 3.0 EVO, which supports motors that can reach speeds of 23,000 rpm.
Along with that, faster charging is also on offer with speeds of up to 240 kW. That’s what has been showcased in the newest video, and brings BYD closer to speeds seen in Tesla vehicles where long-range and performance variants can charge at up to 250 kW.
In China, the Sealion’s price starts at a price equivalent to $A40,480 for the entry-level single-motor variant. This is bumped up to $A51,150 for the top-spec dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant.
Local pricing has not yet been announced but we can expect the Sealion 7 to be priced starting at around $55,000 locally given the current pricing of Tesla’s Model Y.
BYD is one of the fastest-growing car companies in the world with over 25,000 sales in Australia. The majority of these sales have been on the back of the Atto 3 SUV, and since December last year, the Seal electric sedan.
In recent months, BYD has been testing the Sealion 7 in Australia with multiple sightings in NSW and Victoria.
Size-wise, the new SUV is 4,830 mm in length, which is 80 mm longer than Australia’s best-selling EV, the Tesla Model Y.
Details of the local launch have not been disclosed but its expected to be announced closer to the end of the year.
With faster charging speeds and its SUV body type, the Sealion 07 is likely to be in the top 5 best-sellers in 2025 as EV uptake takes off.
