Chery, one of the newest car brands in Australia, announced earlier this year that it would be bringing its first electric SUV in the form of the Omoda E5. Now specifications of the two variants have been announced, hinting at the car’s imminent launch.

The Omoda E5 is a mid-sized electric SUV and will be launching with the base BX variant and the top trim EX variant. It has yet to reveal its pricing but it is expected to be under $A45,000 given that in New Zealand, the starting price of the Omoda E5 is $NZ47,990.

The Omoda E5 will arrive at local showrooms next month with local pricing to be announced closer to launch.

Some key features of the BX variant include:

  • Dual 12.3-inch screens
  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 50W wireless phone charger

The EX models add a powered sunroof, ambient interior lighting, 360-degree camera and 8-speaker sound system.

Both variants of the Omoda E5 come with 430 km of range that is delivered by a 61 kWh battery pack.Ā

Charging the E5 can be done thanks to DC fast-charging available which offers a rate of 80 kW. That is quite similar to one of the best-selling electric SUVs, the Atto 3, which is also rated at 80 kW. This charge rate helps the car to charge from 30-80% in under 30 minutes at the right DC fast charger.

The batteries feed the Omoda E5’s single motor powertrain producing 150 kW of power and up to 340 Nm of torque. This helps it sprint from 0-100 km/h in a respectable time of 7.6 seconds.

It also provides a reasonable energy consumption rate of 155 Wh/km which is on par with a few other electric SUVs in the market.

The Omoda E5 also has an official tow rating with a maximum of 750kg towing capacity on offer.

On the safety front, the E5 comes equipped with a suite of safety features including 7 airbags as well as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which cover:

  • Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
  • Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)Ā
  • Lane-keeping assistance (LKA)

A spare tyre is also on offer which has not been a standard inclusion across many new models in the market.

“We’re proud to offer a vehicle that not only delivers outstanding performance and range but also helps reduce our carbon footprint,” said Lewis Lu, CEO of Chery Australia.

“This launch is a significant milestone in our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.”

Chery’s first electric model will be available in 5 colours including:

  • Titan Green
  • Lunar White
  • Saturn Silver
  • Space Black
  • Martain Red

For the Titan Green and Lunar White colours, an optional black roof is also available.

The E5’s battery comes covered with an 8-year and unlimited kilometre warranty. As for the car, a 7-year and unlimited kilometre warranty is available. There is also a 7-year capped price servicing and up to 7 years of roadside assistance on offer.
