MG has shaken up the electric vehicle market in Australia by slashing the price of the popular MG ZS EV to just $34,990 driveaway for the MY23 build vehicles, making it the lowest cost EV on the market for the moment.
This pricing is expected to last the month of August and while it does so it will undercut the GWM Ora, which has a starting price of $35,990 driveaway.
Along with the MG ZS EV, the company has also cut prices on the trendy MG4 electric hatchback range, saving up to $4,000 on the X-Power variant.
Other variants have also seen prices trimmed, making the already leading electric hatchback even more attractive to buyers.
Starting from 1st August, new prices excluding on-road costs of both MY24 MG models in the electric lineup are as follows.

“MG has been leading the charge with attainable electric vehicles since the launch of the local award-winning ZS EV and MG4, with reduced nationwide drive away pricing on some of our range Australia wide, we maintain our leadership position in this space,” MG Australia CEO Peter Ciao said in a statement.
“MG is putting customers first by ensuring all road users can access a wide range of affordable zero emission vehicles thanks to a special National Driveaway Price Campaign.”
On top of that, MG has also set a new benchmark in Australia by offering an industry-leading 10-year or 250,000km warranty across its entire range. This is up from the 7-year warranty the company previously offered on its vehicles.
MG Australia’s chief commercial officer, Giles Belcher said the 10-year warranty for EV, PHEV, Hybrid and petrol range is the best and strongest in market.”
“When it comes time for our customers to upgrade their car, we want them to turn to us first. We have a stack of great product in market and more on its way, so we want people to try us sooner than later,”.

Back in 2021, MG was the first brand in Australia to offer a new electric car under $50,000. Now within 3 years, the same car is available for as low as $34,990, setting a new record for affordable electric SUVs in the market.
With additional warranty and coverage from August 2024, the MG ZS EV is by far the best-value EV in Australia. It’s affordability will also help many more get behind the wheel of an EV for the first time.

In the table of prices from 1 August, the price for the MG ZS EV Excite, which I believe to be the base model, is unchanged from the July price.
Please clarify.
I have just realised that the pricing in the table for the August prices, applies to the MY24 vehicles, and not the MY23 vehicles, to which, the $35K price applies.
So, when will MG include spare wheels with the cars?
It's been decades since I've needed to change a tyre.
Lucky man. Living on a dirt road we have tyre changes once every twelve months or so or more often. And the bloody Kona EV does not have a spare.
For my Born I bought a spare wheel and tyre to take along with me on remote trips.

Many cars don't have spare wheels, including my EV. It's not a deal breaker for me.
not many cars these days have a spare, especially evs, if you need one just get one.
Want a spare? Then just buy one. The rest of us are happy to keep our cash in our pocket and enjoy the extra storage space.

There is the mass market - which actually makes a difference - and then there is this particular fringe issue. Please don't confuse fringe issues with the mass market!

Frontal cortex says 10 year warranty super sensible. Reptilian brain wants to buy an xpower and smoke amgs at the lights. Think reptilian brain might win at that price.
On the spare wheel saga a friend of mine picked up a puncture on the motorway.with not having no spare the breakdown firm took him to a tyre shop and because the alloy wheel was damaged because he drove on it the cost was over £600. Luckily he wasn't stranded in the middle of nowhere. I would never buy a car without a spare wheel
U make it sound like it's a good thing. Read between the lines. This is MG dumping old stock that hasn't sold. EV sales are declining in most regions and car makers now have an oversupply problem. Sounds great for the buyer, but it's unsustainable. 2nd hand EV market is in freefall too, which has a big knock on effect. In the UK, only 1 in 5 EV sales are to private buyers - fleets cannot prop up the market indefinately.
So... Used to be EVs cost too much... shows how terrible they are! Now it's EVs are so cheap... shows how terribke they are.

MG Australia has ended the nationwide drive away pricing offer across all their EV models, which began in March 2024.
At the time this decision slashed thousands of dollars off MG4 and MG ZS EV models, especially for West Australian buyers far away from Sydney.
Volcano Orange premium paint is no longer also a free option, once again priced as a $700 optional extra.
As an example of how the end of nationwide driveaway pricing impacts buyers, yesterday the MG4 Essence 64 cost $46,990 driveway anywhere in Australia. Today it costs $49,229 WA and $48,206 in NSW.
The only MG EV which has retained nationwide drive away pricing is the base model ZS EV Excite whose price has been slashed to $34,990 driveaway across the nation.

So, the "price cut" seems to be an illusion, involving a 2300AUD price increase for the MG4 Essence 64, in WA.
Perhaps, the report above, could be improved, by including the driveaway pricing , as at 31 July, and, 01 August, for each of the models in the table above, for each state/territory, to validate the report...
