Xiaomi, one of the world’s leading smartphone companies which is now also one of the newest EV makers, has dropped a bombshell at its latest event with the showcase of a hypercar that takes electric sedans to another level.

The SU7 Ultra electric sedan was showcased at an overnight event with three electric motors to deliver 1548 horsepower or over 1100 kW.

The new tri-motor powertrain will help launch the car from 0-100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds. This key performance metric from the reveal was shared by the company on its X page.

On top of that, the setup will help the SU7 prototype reach speeds in excess of 350 km/h.

The powertrain is fed by CATL’s latest Qilin battery which is optimised for performance vehicles. According to reports from CNC, it’s capable of delivering a maximum output of 1330 kW at a higher state of charge.

The same pack can be recharged in less than 12 minutes, making it ideal for race track conditions.Ā

The new SU7 prototype comes with high-performance racing brake callipers designed by AP Racing. These help the car stop quickly even when the brakes reach temperatures above 800 C.

The sedan has a large wing at the back that helps it produce a maximum downforce of 2145 kg. This will certainly help the car stay planted when on the track.

All this performance is delivered in a fairly light-weight package of just 1,900 kg. The company has achieved this by making all exterior panels of ā€œ100%ā€ carbon fibre.Ā

Going by the weight, it makes the SU7 prototype lighter than the Model S Plaid by over 250 kg.Ā

It’s also 550 kg lighter than the new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach edition which recently took the crown for fastest four-door production electric car around the famous Nürburgring track.

Xiaomi also plans to test its new SU7 at the track with the company saying: ā€œIn October, we will be attempting to record an outstanding lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuitā€.

The event dubbed ā€œLei Jun Annual Speech 2024ā€ had Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun showcase the latest the smartphone brand has to offer and this year included an update on its recently launched electric sedan, the SU7.

It’s astonishing to see such a high-performance car from such a young company. The first official deliveries of the SU7 began in April this year. With production hitting over 10,000 units in June, Xiaomi has already delivered 25,000 SU7s to customers.

On a recent trip to China, we saw the SU7 sedan being benchmarked against other electric sedans.Ā
