Smart, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and China’s Geely Holdings has released the pricing and specificiations of the two electric vehicles that it is bringing to the Australian market this year.
The two compact electric models, smart#1 and smart#3, are both designed in Germany, and will be priced between $54,900 and $70,900 before on road costs. Both will come with basic, premium and “performance variants” which explains the price difference.
They will both be powered by 66 kWh battery packs, which will deliver ranges of between 400kms and 440kms. First deliveries will be made in September and will add to the growing options in the local EV market.

“We are certain that the extensive and highly appealing smart range will build a unique position in the Australian market for those wishing to add electric mobility to their lifestyle.”
The smart#1 will be available in three variants:
- Pro+ – starts at $54,900 before on-roads
- Premium – starts at $58,900 before on-roads
- Brabus – starts at $67,900 before on-roads
The Pro+ is powered by a single motor which produces up to 200 kW of power as well as delivering a peak torque of 343 Nm. This helps this variant propel from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
This variant comes with a fair few standard features including:
- 19-inch wheels
- Halo panoramic roof
- Advanced intelligent driving with smart auto-pilot
- LED headlights
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Powered tailgate
On top of the Pro+, the Premium model adds a 640 Watts Beats sound system, faster AC charging, matrix headlights and leather upholstery. This variant maintains the same powertrain as the base Pro+ variants.
The top-spec Brabus will be available with two motors that deliver up to 315 kW of power and 543 Nm of torque. This helps propel this SUV from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
All three variants are expected to be powered by a 66 kWh Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese battery (NCM) battery delivering up to 450 km of range.
This variant also comes with unique sportier styling as well as sports-focused software mode. On the styling front, the red brake callipers and suede upholstery are also seen on the Brabus variant.
Like the smart#1, the smart#3 is powered by a 200 kW motor for the first Pro+ and Premium variants. This will help it sprint from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. The variants of the sportier smart#3 include:
- Pro+ – starts at $57,900 before on-roads
- Premium – starts at $61,900 before on-roads
- Brabus – starts at $70,900 before on-roads
The smart#3 Brabus adds 20-inch wheels and is powered by the same drivetrain as the smart#1 Brabus. This propels this car from 0-100 km/h in 0.1 seconds faster at a blistering 3.7 seconds. This model is also expected to be powered by the same 66 kWh battery pack found in the smart#1.
These six variants will be available exclusively from LSH Auto Australia’s retail outlets in major cities on the east coast which are located in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
