Another Xpeng electric model, the G9, spotted in Australia for first time

Xpeng is one of the newest EV brands to land in Australia and in recent weeks, multiple sightings of their mid-sized electric SUV, the G6, have been reported. Many of these have been test vehicles and have been spotted both in NSW and Victoria.

Now, another model has been spotted in NSW by EV enthusiast Jason B, who shared images of the G9 large electric SUV model on X.

The spotted model has a luxurious orange interior and is in a left-hand-drive configuration. Looking into the interior, a large screen can be seen which spans from the centre to the passenger side.

The flat-bottom steering wheel also has a screen behind it which like the G6 SUV is likely to have key driving and driver assistance information displayed.

From the outside, the black G9 has flush door handles to help with the aerodynamics of the large EV. It also had a black Xpeng badge on the boot lid in the rear.

For those looking at a large electric SUV, there aren’t too many options on the market so the G9 could be a good option for those looking for more space in an electric SUV.

In recent times, Kia has launched the EV9 which has seen modest sales of just over 300 in the first 6 months.

Xpeng officially launched the G9 back in 2022. At that time, the brand claimed that the G9 had the fastest charging speeds of any electric SUV.

The G9 is based on an 800-volt high-voltage platform. Variants of the SUV are capable of charging the car at up to 430 kW at the right charger.

According to Xpeng, at the company’s 480 kW ultrarapid chargers, this EV from 10% to 80% in 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, the fastest versions of the G9 SUV with AWD can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Xpeng has been selling cars in various European countries for a few years now. These include Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands.

The G9 is available for sale in the Netherlands with some stocked vehicles starting at €60,478 or $A97,600. This would put the G9 in close competition with the Kia EV9 which starts at $97,000 for the Air variant.

It’s unclear if the G9 will be sold in Australia but the latest sighting could provide a hint of what’s to come. We look forward to hearing more about the G9 but probably after the G6’s local pricing has been announced in September.
