BYD to launch $A145,000 luxury electric people mover in key right hand drive market

BYD has been one of the fastest-growing car companies in recent times. Although the brand’s original push has been in the affordable segments of the market, it has now started to launch multiple premium brands in China.

This includes Denza, which is about to enter its first right-hand-drive market with the opening a flagship showroom in Hong Kong, where the sticker price of its D9 people mover will cost the equivalent of around $A145,000.

On X, the BYD Asia Pacific account confirmed that the company is to unveil the luxurious 7-seater people mover into the market at its new showroom.

This will be Denza’s first right-hand-drive vehicle in the Hong Kong market and likely sets the path for potential launch in other markets too.

The translated version of the post by BYD says: “We’re beyond excited to announce the grand opening of the brand-new Denza flagship showroom in Kowloon Bay! Join us as we unveil the Denza D9 in Hong Kong, China, the embodiment of cutting-edge technology with elegant design. Come be a part of this monumental event and step into the future of driving with Denza!”.

The Denza brand has focused on premium offerings in the Chinese market and the D9 model brings this in two trims.

This includes a front-wheel drive advanced variant with a starting price of $A128,470. These specifications can be bumped up to a premium all-wheel drive with a price of $A144,815.

The D9 Can deliver up to 620 km of range on the CLTC cycle. That would be closer to 450 km on the WLTP cycle used in Australia.

The battery pack in the D9 can be topped up with 150 km of range in just 10 minutes.

The D9 was originally launched in 2022 and features multiple luxury features including captain’s chairs in the second row.

Two interior colours are available which include beige and white. Other features such as a cooling box to store drinks that stay cool.

Interested customers can pre-order the vehicle with a refundable deposit of $A2,000. BYD states that the first deliveries of the Denza D9 will occur in the 4th quarter of 2024.
