Xpeng’s Australian G6 electric SUV pre-orders page taken down

2024 is turning out to be the year of new EV brands launching in Australia and some compelling new models. One of these is Xpeng from China which announced last month that it’d be landing into the local market by the end of 2024.

Earlier this week, Xpeng’s local website posted for the first time a configurator for its sleek G6 SUV, showing that it was open for pre-orders. But after a short period of time, it was taken down.

It was first spotted by Sam K on X, who noted that the pre-orders page requested a deposit of $990.

With the order page appearing to be live, hundreds of interested buyers and EV enthusiasts spotted it and had a look at the specs on offer.

No pricing details were revealed. If Hong Kong pricing is anything to go by, it would be undercutting the Model Y which starts in that market at under $A57,000.

The base model offering includes a 66 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery with a range of up to 435 km on a single charge. To charge this battery, DC fast-charging speeds of up to 215 kW are on offer given the G6’s 800-volt architecture.

This variant was offered in a rear-wheel-drive configuration and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds.

There was also a long-range model with a larger 87.5 kWh battery offering a range of up to 570 km.

Both variants on offer can be charged from 10-80% in as little as 20 minutes according to Xpeng which would make it one of the fastest-charging EVs in its class.

Multiple vehicle colours were available on the configurator, including silver, white, grey, black and the model’s iconic orange.

Xpeng has been looking in recent months at releasing a right-hand-drive model with news emerging of it heading to Hong Kong and Singapore as well as potentially to other international markets in its efforts to become a global player.

Last month, Xpeng launched in Hong Kong ahead of Australian arrival. At the launch, Xpeng showcased multiple models heading to that market including a flying car. Xpeng will be delivering the G6 in Hong Kong to customers by Q3 in 2024.

The local configurator page of Xpeng’s G6 also noted the delivery time of the vehicle for those who place a deposit. According to the configurator page on the website when it was live, it’s expected to be in the Q4 2024 window.
