Four years after its first unveiling to the world, and nearly five months after the first deliveries were made to customers at an event in Texas, the steel-bodied Tesla Cybertruck has finally made it to Australian shores.
The first unit arrived in Australia a week ago and on Friday began a “road show” down under, starting with Sydney where it was spotted in various parts of the city before being installed in the company’s Alexandria showroom.
Tesla also a video of the Cybertruck going across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, announced dates of the tour starting in NSW.
According to Tesla, the Cybertruck will be displayed in multiple locations around Sydney and will be available to public viewing via RSVP on Tesla’s website.
Viewing dates start from 26th April to 26 May 2024 during the hours of 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. The schedule of the viewing outlined is:
The left-hand-drive Cybertruck will not be available for a test drive, but the Model 3 and Model Y will be for those coming to check the car out.
Tesla highlighted this on its website by saying: “Durable. Rugged. Adaptive. Join us in Sydney and meet our display Cybertruck. During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to test drive Model 3 or Model Y.”
This specific Cybertruck on display is registered on the road for the next 12 months which could provide a hint as to the duration of this tour.
Looking a bit deeper into the VIN of this vehicle, it shows that it’s certainly a Texas-built model and is the dual-motor variant of the Cybertruck with strong performance and towing capabilities.
After Sydney, it’s unclear at this stage as to where the vehicle will be heading in the coming. Tesla hints that it will be an Australia and New Zealand tour with more details to follow.
New Zealand has already seen the Cybertruck visit, although it was for winter testing last year before official production commencing in September.
The news of the Cybertruck in NSW comes only days after the company’s team announced that the production of the vehicle is now at 1000 units per week.
It’s still exciting for thousands of Tesla owners and fans and Cybertruck order holders across the country and will most certainly lead to more foot traffic in Tesla stores. That’s likely to boost the brand’s marketing of its vehicles across both countries in months to come.
