Italian luxury vehicle manufacturer Maserati has unveiled an all-electric drop-top convertible, the GranCabrio Folgore, boasting three drive motors and a 92.5kWh battery able to deliver around 750 horsepower.
The GranCabrio Folgore is the latest of three Trident modesl to receive a battery-electric upgrade, and the company intends that its entire Maserati range will run on electricity alone by 2028.
The latest offering is similar to the GranTurismo Folgore, which the company unveiled in March 2022, which is unsurprising given that it shares a platform, running gear, interior, and overall design.
Billed as “the first luxury full-electric convertible on the market”, the GranCabrio Folgore boasts three powerful 300kW permanent magnet motors which – if the battery were capable, which it is not – would be able to output 1,200hp.
Unfortunately for those looking for a road legal “rocketship”, the GranCabrio Folgore is only fitted with a T-shaped 92.5kWh (83kWh usable) battery with a discharge capacity of 610kW, and which is able to continuously deliver around 750hp to the wheels.
The battery is capable of recovering energy during braking at up to 400kW and offers 800V fast-charging up to 270kW – allowing for 100km of range to be added in only 5 minutes. The more sedate 400V 50kW fast-charging option – which utilises a “DC Booster” which acts as a voltage adapter/booster – allows for 25km to be added in 5 minutes.
With a top speed of 290km/h and acceleration from 0-100km/h in only 2.8 seconds, the GranCabrio Folgore offers a range somewhere between 419 and 447km (WLTP).
The roof can be operated on the move at up to speeds of 50km/h and opens in 14 seconds – operated by controls on the centre display.
As befits a Maserati, all manner of luxury offerings are included inside and out, including a dual touchscreen digital cockpit featuring 12.3-inch infotainment display and 8.8-inch climate-control display, as well as a 12.2-inchdigital instrument cluster and configurable heads-up display.
Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Baidu CarLife allow for connection to two smartphones at once via Bluetooth, while customers will be able to take advantage of an all-inclusive home and public charging offer which includes a wallbox and access to a public charging network through the Maserati Public Charge app.
A number of driver safety features are included, while a double-wishbone suspension with “semi-virtual” steering axis and air springs with electronic damping control ensure for a smooth drive.
And, to top it all off, the GranCabrio Folgore offers two different Sonus Faber audio configurations – a standard option with 13 speakers and 2D surround, or an optional “High Premium” audio system boasting 16 speakers, 2D and 3D surround sound, and up to 1060W.
