Tesla early last year quietly advertised various jobs on its careers page that hinted at the leading EV maker bringing its in-house repair shops to Australia.
Now the first of these collision repair centres in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne has opened in Alexandria, in metropolitan Sydney. It was first shared on X by a reader of The Driven and Tesla enthusiast, Nash.
In the shared correspondence from Tesla Australia, it says: āOur new Body Repair Centre is located at 118 Bourke Road Alexandria. Body repairs performed by our trained Tesla team aim to ensure the functionality, safety and longevity of your Tesla.ā
Tesla then advises the owners to book via the Tesla app under the service section by selecting āCollision & Glassā.

When the roles were first advertised in April last year, Tesla was looking for a variety of technicians, managers and support staff including:
- Ā Ā Ā Customer Service Representatives
- Ā Ā Ā Estimators
- Ā Ā Ā Pain Preppers
- Ā Ā Ā Painters
- Ā Ā Ā Parts Advisors
- Ā Ā Ā Production Managers
- Ā Ā Ā Repair Managers
- Ā Ā Ā Technicians
- Ā Ā Ā Vehicle Detailers
Many of these specialised roles are critical to bringing the collision and body works operations in-house.
On its website, Tesla states details of its collision centres and the the kind of repairs they perform for Tesla customers: āTesla owns and operates a growing network of Collision Centers that perform full structural repair in addition to light collision work.ā

Ā Up until now Tesla has been working with Tesla-Approved Collision Centres which are run by external body repair operators.
This may have been sufficient when the fleet was of lower numbers but with a fleet of more than 100,000 vehicles in the country, having in-house collision body shops would fast-track the process for customers needing body works.
With the Sydney repair centre now taking customer requests, works on the Brisbane and Melbourne locations are likely to be progressing as well. We’ll keep an eye out for those as Tesla aims to deliver thousands more EVs to our market in the coming months.
