MG Australia has announced a dramatic cut in the drive-away prices across its entire electric vehicle range in Australia, with its most affordable models, the MG4 Excite and MG ZS EV Excite, now starting at a drive-away price of $39,990.
The latest price cuts announced late Thursday also includes the dual-motor hot-hatch MG4 X-Power variant, which comes in at $59,990 driveway.
The largest savings are seen in the MG ZS EV Long Range, coming in at nearly $9,000 off the driveaway price. On the MG4, the Long Range variant also sees more than $6,000 cut from its drive-away price.
The move was announced by MG Australia CEO Peter Ciao, who re-iterated the brand’s support for the proposed New Vehicle Efficiency Standard.
“We are serious about our commitment to support the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard,” he said.
“And once again, MG is putting customers first by ensuring everyone can access a wide range of affordable zero emission vehicles thanks to reduced nation wide drive away pricing on the entire MG4 range.
The MG4 electric has been a success in the local market after thousands of buyers opted to purchase this ground-up electric hatchback.
Ciao also noted the choice MG4 offers and how it can be a lot more affordable to refuel an electric car in Australia thanks to this high solar uptake across the country.
For the first time in Australia, an electric SUV can now be purchased for under $40,000 drive away, making it accessible to more drivers across the country. The crown for the cheapest EV still sits with the GWM Ora Cat which is priced at $38,163 driveway in NSW.
“We’ve got a lot of sunshine and some of the most expensive electricity in Australia, with the majority of our country receiving many hours of sunshine per day, when averaged throughout the year, it makes complete sense to install solar and recharge your car for from the sun.”
Along with the discount offered on the MG ZS and MG4 models, it appears that MG is also re-callibrating its servicing deals, following complaints from some customers about the high cost of MG4 servicing.
“Our Precise Price Servicing applies to all cars in our range but with EV, is another step towards ensuring our customers have complete peace of mind when they join the MG family. As an example, the first service for a 64kWh MG4 comes at either 40,000km or 24 months and is $296 AUD (as at 20/3/24).”
On top of the set servicing plan, MG offers a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty, one of the longer warranties on offer in Australia.
