Electric vehicle charging network operator Evie Networks is predicting a record 10,000 EV drivers will use their chargers over the Easter long weekend, up from 8,000 over Christmas, and is recommending drivers plug in early.
Evie says that before and during the holiday period is set to be the busiest, and recommends EV drivers charge early in the week rather than on the Thursday before the Easter long weekend which will likely be the busiest period.
Evie says the average charging time was 15 to 30 mins during the Christmas period and says they’ve installed 12 new charging locations since then.
Head of Public Charging Bernhard Conoplia predicts the biggest holiday queues at charging stations will occur between 2-3 hours out of major cities.
“Key NSW Highway sites will be busy, Cameron Park, Taree and Macksville. Also, sites in regional Victoria particularly Wangaratta and Lakes Entrance.”
Evie is also trialling ‘busy times’ in the app so that drivers have visibility of how busy a site is and the best time to charge. This is not available at all sites (see site list below).Â
