New South Wales based office design and construction firm Sheldon has announced the arrival of its first electric truck, a Hyundai Mighty Electric truck, which is the first of its kind to hit the road for an Australian business.

Sheldon, an office fitout design and construction firm out of North Sydney, unveiled the first Hyundai Mighty Electric on Monday.

South Korean automaker Hyundai launched its Mighty Electric truck in Australia in late-2023 with a starting price of $150,000 (plus on road costs) and a 114.5kWh battery that delivers up to 200 kilometres of range.

At the time of launch, the cab chassis Mighty Electric was available only with an alloy tray, but since then a Pantech box body has been introduced, as demonstrated by Sheldon’s newest arrival.

The truck – dubbed ‘Zero CO2’ by the firm – will deliver Sheldon-made joinery across Sydney from its manufacturing facility on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Sheldon has also installed a charging station at its Central Coast facility. Sheldon is also planning the development of a solar and battery project at its manufacturing facility.

Delivery of the Hyundai Mighty is a key part of the company’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions, building on its growing sustainable operations.

“Why wait until the next generation of electric vehicles becomes more affordable or more widely available?” said Peter Law, founder and CEO of Sheldon.

“We wanted to get ahead and do something about our environmental impact now.”

Sheldon also credits Indigenous Elder, Professor Richard Swain, co-founder and CEO of sister company CoDesign+ Sheldon, which uses its profits from office fitouts to aid land regeneration and promote Indigenous cultural practices that care for Country.

“Richard’s influence has made us realise we can’t keep waiting – we’re choosing to invest in our people and the planet, for future generations,” Law said.
