The Tesla Cybertruck has taken Tesla and much of the EV community by storm with many new owners showcasing its capabilities, including its towing capacity.
One new owner has taken this to another level by towing a caravan that weighs almost 5-tonne. The Sandpiper Destination caravan was seen being hitched onto a Cybertruck in a post shared by user Drake on X:

The nicely wrapped black Cybertruck is owned by recreation vehicle (RV) dealer, who says the goal of the test was to see how the vehicle handles the load. He was taken away by what was observed: “My goal was to see if the @cybertruck could handle the weight. After towing, I’m blown away with the handling!”
A video was also shared while towing the near 5-tonne trailer with the caravan on it and efficiency of 1,500 Wh/mile was achieved. What was really impressive is the weight or the lack of, felt by the driver who said: “I can’t believe how good its towing it, when you are cruising, you don’t even feel the trailer behind you, wow,”.

A photo taken from inside the truck showcases how boxy the caravan being towed is which would make the drag co-efficient of the whole setup extremely high and inefficient.
The Sandpiper Destination caravans are 12 meters long but the Cybertruck appeared to have no issues towing the trailer it was on.
Cybertruck’s Australian website showcases some key specifications of the vehicle including towing:
- 4,990 kg of towing capacity
- 547 km of range
- 2.7 seconds to get from 0-100 km/h
Given the near 5-tonne towing capacity, the caravan being towed by Drake appears to be right on the limit. Many vehicles at the upper limit don’t perform too well while driving but this appears to be not the issue for the Cybertruck in this test.
Back in November, prior to the Cybertruck’s delivery event, several instances of the Cybertruck towing had been spotted, including one towing a large trailer with a Tesla Model Y on it. That setup weighed just over 2,000 kg without the weight of the trailer.
Since then, multiple other tests of the Cybertruck towing have been undertaken including one in the US winter where a Youtuber, Jerry, towed a 5-tonne Hummer with it.
The Cybertruck has proven to be able to tow many different loads and with some recent attempts getting close to its specified load limit, it’s performed exceptionally well. This really helps debunk the myth that EVs can’t tow.
