Hyundai’s first high-performance electric vehicle (EV), the Ioniq 5 N, is now officially available in Australia, with the company revealing its full specs, and confirming the eye-watering starting price of $111,000, before on roads.

Pre-orders for the Ioniq 5 N opened back in October, offering Australians the chance to get their hands on a high-performance EV with power output of 448kW/740Nm, backed by an 84kWh battery pack that can be charged from 10-80% in only 18 minutes at a 350kW ultra-rapid charger.

The Ioniq 5 N made its Australian public debut at the Everything Electric show in Sydney earlier this month, although there have been numerous private drive days, including for early order holders, as David Sargent reported.

The Ioniq 5 N provides a number of customisation options, but also comes with a number of impressive upgrades as standard, including exterior graphics, rear spoiler, side-skirts, and inside, a new steering wheel, sports seats, and N-exclusive metal pedals and footrests featuring chequered flag pixel cutouts.

With a top speed of 260km/h and acceleration from 0-100km/h of only 3.5 seconds, the Ioniq 5 N is already a speedy beast. And, by deploying Hyundai’s cleverly named “N Grin Boost”, or NGB, maximum power output increases to 478kW/770Nm, helping to deliver a smidgen extra acceleration speed (3.4 seconds).

And even with all that power and acceleration, the Ioniq 5 N can nevertheless still deliver driving range of 448km (WLTP).

“We are thrilled to introduce Ioniq 5 N, the first electric N and a new global benchmark for driver focused EVs,” said Ted Lee, the CEO of Hyundai Australia.

“Ioniq 5 N is the culmination of years of engineering development and testing, and the ultimate version so far of the multi-award-winning IONIQ 5. We’re confident IONIQ 5 N will exceed the expectations of even the keenest drivers, while remaining a comfortable, spacious and quiet EV for everyday use.

New technologies like N e-Shift and N-Active Sound+ deliver a more traditional driving experience with virtual gear-shifting feel and simulated sound, while N Drift Optimizer, N Pedal, and N Launch Control deliver a “uniquely fun” circuit driving experience, while N-exclusive features such as N Torque Distribution also support track driving.

As with all high-performance models, the range of options and features is long, befitting the price tag, which can be further explored here.
