German automaker Volkswagen has unveiled its first electric wagon, the ID.7 Tourer, which will boast up to 685 kilometres of range and an impressive storage capacity between 605 and 1,714 litres – more than enough for any weekend adventure.
The new ID.7 Tourer is one of the first all-electric estate cars in the upper mid-size class to be unveiled in Europe – a companion to the Passat Variant plug-in hybrid unveiled in September of 2023 – and expands the ID.7 lineup which already included the ID.7 fastback saloon.
While mimicking many of the design cues from the saloon, the ID.7 Tourer obviously differs significantly at the back end. The luggage compartment on the new wagon boasts up to 605 litres of capacity with five people on board, and soars to 1,714 litres with only two people on board.
The ID.7 Tourer will be available with two different battery sizes; however, Volkswagen is managing some of the available information. We know a “new” 86kWh battery for the ID.7 Tourer will deliver estimated range of up to 685km (WLTP), while a smaller 77kWh battery is reported to be available with an undisclosed range.
The ID.7 saloon and the Tourer are believed to be offering the same electric rear-wheel-drive powertrain, boasting 282hp/210kW of power, and charging capacity of 200kW at DC fast-charging stations, allowing drivers to charge from 10% to 80% in less “significantly” than half an hour.
Inside, an augmented reality heads-up display is included as standard, keyless locking and starting system, 10-colour background lighting, rear-view camera system, two-zone automatic air conditioner, and heated front seats.
ChatGPT will also be included alongside an optional Wellness In-Car-App which allows various vehicle functions to be adjusted via preconfigured programmes to enhance well-being during the journey.
An optional panoramic sunroof with smart glass is also available, using a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) layer integrated in the glass to transition the roof from opaque to transparent.
