BMW as unveiled pricing and other details of its new i5 electric wagon, although customers will need to be prepared to pay more than $200,000 for the privilege.
The i5 M60 xDrive Touring variant offers up to 442 kW of power and 800 Nm of torque. It can do the sprint to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, just off 0.1 seconds from the high-powered sedan variant. It promises a range of up to 506 km (WLTP range), from its 84 kWh battery pack.
High speed DC charging is also on offer with peak speeds of up to 205 kW available at the right charger.
Speaking of charging, for local customers, a five-year subscription to Chargefox’s public network which includes AC and high-speed DC chargers is offered free of charge. It offers up to 1700 litres of boot space.
This i5 Touring variant offers multiple comfort and convenience features which include:
- Adaptive LED headlights
- High comfort levels adopted from the flafship BMW 7 series
- Active steering for better driving dynamics
- Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 17 speakers
Given it’s wagon credentials, the new i5 Touring is 97 mm longer than its sedan counterpart which came in at 5,060 mm in length. This will offer more space and practicality compared to the sedan variant.
The new i5 Touring is one of the more unique offerings in the EV landscape as there are currently only a limited number of wagons being offered. Pricing of the new wagon will start at $219,900 before on-roads and BMW expects the car to arrive locally in Q3 of 2024.
