Popular Melbourne inner-city coworking space CreativeCubes.Co has launched a shared electric vehicle (EV) scheme at its Collingwood location, making available a Tesla Model Y for members to book and use as needed.
CreativeCubes.Co, which boasts five co working, serviced, shared office, and collaborative workspaces around Melbourne, announced on Monday the launch of its ‘Electric Car Club’, a shared EV scheme which will be available at its Collingwood workspace location.
The new scheme provides CreativeCubes members with a Tesla Model Y to book and use when they need to go offsite, either for business or to run an errand. And when combined with the workspace’s proximity to Melbourne’s tram network, the new shared EV scheme means that members can avoid having to drive their own car into work.
The Electric Car Club is being facilitated by Australian tech transport provider Outbound and uses its dedicated app for on demand EVs. CreativeCubes.co hope to add additional Teslas at its other workspaces soon.
The shared EV scheme may also be the first of its kind in Australia.
“A large number of our members rely on public transport or cycle to work, but we’ve noticed they often need to venture out to meetings and appointments during their day,” said Gawin Fernando, CreatibeCubes.Co co-founder and head of commercial.
“Our members now have access to ecofriendly, hassle-free transport that is in their control.”
The Tesla Model Y is available to all CreatibeCubes.Co members – not only those who regularly base themselves at Collingwood – however the EV must always be returned to that location.
Outbound is also already trialling a similar concept at other locations on the Gold Coast and Sydney in hotels, residential communities, and commercial high-rises.
Luke Rust, Outbound CEO, says the concept lends itself to Melbourne, where parking “can be a struggle, not to mention expensive.
“This allows users to perhaps catch public transport or walk or ride to work, and if they do need a car during the day, can simply grab the Tesla,” he said.
