Polestar is one of the very few EV-only brands in Australia. After launching back in early 2022, Polestar has sold over 4,000 of its electric sedan, Polestar 2 in our market.

Now, its next-generation EVs are expected to roll into the international and local markets in 2024. One of these is the Polestar 4, a sleek mid-sized SUV that has just been put into production with customer deliveries beginning in China this month.

Polestar announced this on Weibo in China and on X. The post on X also specifically mentioned orders opening in the Australian market in the coming weeks: ā€œPolestar announces global volumes for the fourth quarter. Strong start to Polestar 4 deliveries, sales to start in Europe and Australia in the coming weeks.ā€

The start of deliveries in China comes within 12 months of the Shanghai auto show where the unique SUV was first unveiled.

Since then, the model has already had a price cut in the Chinese market ahead of these first deliveries. The Polestar 4 now starts at an equivalent price of under $A65,000 or 299,900 RMB.

The Polestar 4 is available in two main powertrain configurations. The first is a single-motor version that will offer up to 560 km in range. Meanwhile, a dual-motor version will feature a 400 kW powertrain that will be able to get from 0-100 km/h in under 4 seconds.

This powertrain is fed by a 102 kWh battery pack with vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities. This pack can be fast-charged at up to 200 kW at an appropriate charger.

On the inside, a large 15.4-inch screen is on offer with Android Automotive software built-in. This makes trip-planning and other EV-specific features possible and offers a more seamless experience.Ā

Polestar delivered a total of 54,600 cars in 2024, with Q4 making up 12,800 cars.

Locally in 2023, Polestar sales were up over the 1,526 units it sold in 2022. Over the last 12 months, the Swedish brand sold 2,463 units of the Polestar 2 sedan.

With Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 to arrive in 2024, the sales figures are likely to climb, making it the best year for Polestar in 2024.

More details on this new SUV and the local orders opening are likely to come in the coming months.
