Tesla’s Cybertruck is one of the most anticipated vehicles to hit the market in recent years. With the launch event of the utilitarian stell-bodied truck only weeks away, more sightings of the near-production-ready vehicles are surfacing.
Now a sighting of the Cybertruck in Florida shows it towing a large boat. The photos were taken and shared on Facebook by the team at Boateka, a used boat dealership, which sells marine equipment.
The caption to the post read: “Our team at Boateka got a sneak peek at the Tesla Cyber Truck yesterday! You are looking at the first-ever boat towed by a cyber truck.”
In the shared photos, the Cybertruck has a boat trailer hitched to it with a fairly large boat on the trailer.
From the image, it appears to be a Regal Bowrider 21-foot OBX boat with a dry weight of 1,474 kg. This may not be the heaviest object the Cybertruck has been seen to tow in recent times.
Less than two weeks ago, the Cybertruck was spotted towing a large trailer. On the trailer, there was a Tesla Model Y along with a toolbox. That setup weighs more than the boat and trailer given the Model Y itself is over 2,000 kg.
Although the exact specs of the Cybertruck haven’t been announced yet, it’s expected to have a fairly high tow rating.
When the truck was originally announced back in 2019, the dual-motor version was described to have 10,000 pounds of towing which equates to 4.5 tonnes. A tri-motor performance variant is expected to bump that up to 6.4 tonnes.
These figures are likely to be officially confirmed by Tesla at the end of this month when the first customer deliveries are pencilled to commence.
Currently in Australia, the Tesla Model Y can be configured with a Tesla-installed towbar which has a towing capacity of 1,600 kg.
This tow package can be purchased by customers and installed by a technician at the Tesla service centre and comes at a cost of $1,970.
The Model Y tow-pack installation also includes a tow-mode software package which is likely to be included in the Cybertruck as well given that the vehicle’s utilitarian features it’s likely to offer.
The Cybertruck delivery event is scheduled for November 30.
