BYD Dolphin: Deliveries of Australia’s most affordable EV to begin this week

BYD is to begin deliveries of Australia most affordable EV, the Dolphin, this week, as it builds on the success of its popular Atto 3 and the strong reaction to the opening of orders for the BYD Seal.

BYD’s electric vehicle sales in Australia already top 10,000 – all from the Atto 3 to date, and the addition of the two new models will help the Chinese car maker challenge Tesla for top spot in the local EV market.

Order holders for the BYD Dolphin have been hinting that the first batches are likely to make it to their driveways in the coming days.

EV Direct, BYD’s distributor in Australia, confirmed that the first deliveries are starting this week. This comes after a truck-load of BYD Dolphins were spotted in Melbourne earlier this month.

Since then, other sightings of the car have been made by BYD owners. One was as recent as last week in Brighton, Melbourne, by Rhett F where a truck carrying Atto 3 vehicles along with a Dolphin was seen.

The BYD Dolphin is officially Australia’s most affordable EV, starting at a price point of under $39,000 before on-roads. The three variants on offer include:

  • Dynamic – starts at $38,890
  • Premium – starts at $44,890
  • Sport – starts at $49,990

With the appetite for EVs at an all-time high and with affordable options finally reaching the delivery stage for early adopters, we are likely to see thousands of Dolphins on our roads in the coming months.
