EV uptake has been taking off in Australia this year with over 65,000 EVs hitting the roads in the first 9 months. One EV segment that doesn’t make up many of the sales numbers is the 7-seater SUVs. This has recently changed with Kia showcasing its EV9 SUV at multiple events across Australia.
Now, multiple sightings of this 7-seater electric SUV have been reported by electric vehicle enthusiasts. The first one of these was a white EV9 that was shared on X by bpdean15.
This car was seen at a set of traffic lights in the outer Sydney suburb of Castle Hill. It also shows the large daytime running lights that run on either side of the vehicle’s front bumper.
Soon after that, a second EV9 was spotted in the Iceberg green colour and shared by Mike Shipton on Facebook before being re-shared on X by ZappedAU.
This one was parked next to Kia’s 7-seater ICE vehicle, the Sorento which gives a bit of a comparison of the size of the EV9.
Dimensions-wise, the Kia EV9 comes in at 5,010 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,755 mm in height.
The registration records of this particular car reveal that it has only been on the NSW roads for less than a week and weighs 2.6 tonnes.
For the local market, the EV9 includes a standard-range RWD variant which has a 76.1 kWh battery pack along with a long-range all-wheel-drive variant which packs a 99.8 kWh battery.
This recently spotted EV9 in Iceberg green colour is likely to be the AWD version with a 99.8 kWh battery pack.
More details on the local specifications are to be announced in the coming weeks when the Kia EV9 is expected to be launched.
With more 7-seater EV options becoming available in the coming months, it’s expected to do well with buyers looking at a larger premium SUV. We look forward to test-driving it when it lands locally in the coming months.
