First year of BYD Atto 3 ownership insights revealed

It’s been just over a year since the first deliveries of what was then Australia’s most affordable ground-up EV, the BYD Atto 3. Since then over 10,000 have made it onto local roads with thousands more expected to in the coming months.

One of the first owners of a BYD Atto 3 in Australia, Craig Rayner, has shared his insights on his first year on the BYD EV Owners Australia’s Facebook group.

Rayner says the car had travelled 19,383 km and had consumed 3,010 kWh. That translated to an average consumption of 15.5 kWh/100 km, and it cost him an average of  $3.42 per 100 km, or $663 of charging costs to travel in the first year.

According to Rayner, most of the travel was done in regional NSW, where he resides and works.  He did not break down the charging ratio of fast-charging or home charging.

Another BYD Atto 3 owner, John Adams, said his first year had clocked 16,382 km and consumption of 2,719 kWh.

Some 73.8% of that was from solar, while 325 kWh was through fast charging over the period of ownership. Adams says his average consumption was 16.6 kWh/100 km.

Consumption is dependent on many factors including road conditions, elevations, outside temperatures, heating and air conditioning usage along with much more.

When we first drove the Atto 3 last August, it was clear that this car was quite different from existing products on the market. Since then, there has been a huge following behind the relatively new brand with owners taking their EVs to more places than ever before.

Atto Gal Perth to Sydney

One of these was the Atto-gal who went on an epic electric adventure from Perth to Sydney and back in a BYD EV. After travelling thousands of kilometres across Australia and documenting Sarah’s journey to inspire others to drive EVs to tour Australia, many more have hit the road in electric cars, including this recent trip to Uluru.
