Another MG4 Xpower “hot-hatch” spotted in Sydney

Earlier this month, the MG’s upcoming MG4 Xpower electric hatchback was spotted parked in Sydney. The photo shared at that time of the performance-focused dual-motor variant was taken at night under low lighting.

Now new photos have emerged of the MG4 Xpower that are under much better light and showcase the “hot-hatch” from various angles. These were shared by Sarah A who runs a very popular facebook group to promote EVs in Australia.

The latest sighting occurred in Sydney at the MG dealership in Alexandria and highlights the featured car in “racing green” matte paint.

From the front, you can see the black side mirrors and a note attached to the windscreen. Although not entirely clear, this could be a shipping label to identify the vehicle.

Looking through the windscreen, the front seats inside also appear to have white covers on them.

The photo showcasing the driver’s side not only highlights the 18″ cyclone alloy wheels with orange calipers but also shows a blue protector sticking out from the driver’s door.

That’s generally to protect any damage to the doors during transport and hints that this car has been transported to Alexandria quite recently.

From the registration check, this car appears to be newer than the model spotted last time as it’s VIN ends with a 4620 whereas the previously spotted Xpower had a VIN that ended with 4619.

On the back of this sighting, excited fans of the MG4 were happy to see new photos which hint that the model is not far from launching locally. “That colour is gorgeous!!”, one said.

Over in the UK, the MG4 Xpower is available and comes packed with some exciting specs for sports cars and hot-hatch fans.

Powered by a 320 kW drivetrain, its dual-motor setup outputs 320 kW which is a big jump from the existing single-motor Long Range variant which has a 180 kW single rear-mounted motor.

This helps the Xpower sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds compared to the over 6 seconds seen in the Long Range variant.

On the battery front, the Xpower is equipped is a 64 kWh battery pack which is the same battery pack found locally in the current Excite 64 and Essence 64 variants.

More details on the local launch are yet to be announced by MG but we are likely to hear more in the coming months. The key question will be in the pricing of the car but we expect it to be around the $70,000 mark given UK’s pricing of £37,295.

It’s good to see electric hatchbacks entering the Australian market, adding choice to a segment previously ignored by many manufacturers. We look forward to getting behind the wheel of Xpower when it finally lands later this year.
