Tesla outlines why it thinks upgraded Model 3 will be more fun

Earlier this month, Tesla launched its upcoming 2024 Tesla Model 3 without an official launch event to outline what the car would be like to drive.

Now, Tesla has released a video from its engineering and design team in China, outlining why the latest Model 3 will be the most fun and engaging electric car from Tesla.

The new video was shared on Weibo before being reshared on Twitter/X by Xiaoteshushu, a well-known Tesla enthusiast in Shanghai.

In the video, Tesla’s vice president of vehicle engineering Lars Moravy, runs through the testing the new Model 3 undertook in Shanghai. Some of the key areas being tested included:

  • Stability of the vehicle
  • Wet handling
  • Road noise
  • Wind noise

The goal of the driving dynamics testing was to analyse the overall vehicle composure and stability in order to make a “great car”.

It was to overall improve customer satisfaction and make major improvements on top of the incremental improvements Tesla customers have gotten used to.

One major improvement to improve road and wind noise involved the utilisation of dual-pane glass across all windows instead of just the front. This improves the overall cabin noise levels and provides a sense of isolation from other vehicles on the road.

On the suspension front, Tesla has now added new shock-absorbing technology which Tesla calls “frequency selective damping”. This is to improve the ride quality while maintaining the handling of the new Model 3.

Moravy elaborates on the engineering improvements gained by the new shock absorbers on this new model: “Not only is it more performance, but it’s also funner to drive and rides better, it’s the kind of car I always wanted,”.

The original Model 3 was unveiled by Tesla over six years ago back in 2017.

Moravy was part of the engineering team that worked on that vehicle and the latest Model 3 is a result of all the things the engineering team has learnt over the years of delivering millions of Model 3s globally: “To put all that impact into this car, it really makes this car the best Model 3,” Moravy added.

In the video, we also see Tesla’s engineering team from China who have put in a lot of work to bring this brand-new Model 3 to market.

Orders on the new 2024 Model 3 are now open in Australia with first customer deliveries expected in Q1 2024.
