Volvo has revealed it will be adding Prime Video to the in-vehicle Google Play store, making it one of the first brands to add it to its vehicles. Along with that, the Swedish brand has also plans to bring YouTube to its cars via the Google built-in infotainment system.
Volvo has been one of the best-selling EV brands in the country with its electric SUV models, making up nearly 3,000 sales in 2023 so far.
The Prime Video service is a video streaming service by Amazon with thousands of shows, movies and documentaries. Having the service in Volvo cars will allow owners to have on-demand entertainment in the car.
The Prive Video and YouTube apps will provide extra entertainment for Volvo owners when the vehicle is parked. YouTube has been enjoyed by Tesla owners for years now so this will be a great addition to Volvo’s cars as well.
Volvo Cars, like Polestar’s vehicles, already runs an Android-based Google operating system, it has many of the features that Android phone users may use Android Auto screen-mirroring for.
It’s one of the most intuitive systems on the market and provides a good experience without needing to connect a phone to the vehicle. It also offers trip planning incorporating charge stops for road trips and the capability for OTA updatable apps via the Play Store.
Volvo has high ambitions to electrify its sales to 100% electric by 2026. So far in 2023, 37% of total vehicle sales have been fully electric which is well above other traditional luxury car makers have achieved in the local market.
