Lotus has unveiled the new Emeya, its first four door all-electric “hypercar”, which is expected to be priced at more than $250,000 and could even reach Australian shores some time in 2024, according to reports.
The unveiling of the new Grand Tourer (GT) occurred at a media event in New York late last week where Lotus Group CEO Feng Qingfeng said the company is “pushing the boundaries for how a luxury electric vehicle should look and handle.”
The Emeya is packed with aerodynamic features including an active front grille, rear diffuser and rear spoiler that helps it accelerate from 0-100 km/h in around 2.8 seconds.
A top-of-the-range variant can achieve speeds of up to 250 km/h thanks to the dual-motor powertrain setup.
The exact details of the battery pack were not revealed, but Lotus did say the car will have a range of up to 600kms, and says 150 km of range can be added in around five minutes at a 350 kW DC fast charger. The battery pack can also be charged up to 80% in under 18 minutes.
“This is a Lotus like you have never seen before,” said Ben Payne, vice president of design at Lotus Group. “We’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far to create a luxury performance car for the drivers, designed to inspire confidence, exhilarate with raw emotion and pure joy – connecting them to the road.”
This is the second all-electric car from the brand, which nearly 12 months ago unveiled its first fully electric SUV, the Eletre.
The Emeya also features interior material threads from repurposed fibres from the fashion industry. There is also a use of Alcantara, Nappa leather, Ultrafabrics and PCD Aluminium.
The audio system is developed by Lotus in collaboration KEF which is a British company that specialises in the design and production of high-end audio products.
A large horizontal infotainment screen also sits in the centre while the rest of the interior has a minimalistic design. There are also two cup holders in the centre.

Speaker grilles and the digital side mirror screens are also visible in some of the artist impressions shared by Lotus.
Detailed specifications of the Emeya will be announced in Q4 2023 with production to begin in early 2024.
