Polestar Australia – which has just released the Polestar 2 refresh – says first deliveries of its new electric SUVs, including the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, should be made in Australia in mid to late 2024.
“The (new) range is coming next year, so Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 are slated for arrival. For Polestar 3 it would be late Q2 and Q3 for Polester 4,” says Laurissa Mirabelli, Polestar Australia’s head of public relations and communications.
Polestar 3 is a large premium electric SUV that is expected to start at $132,900 before on-road costs. It will be offered in dual-motor powertrain configurations and equipped with a 111kWh battery pack which can deliver up to 610 km WLTP range.
This base model packs 360 kW of power while the top-of-the-range Polestar 3 with Performance pack adds more power to the dual-electric motors to help them produce up to 380 kW of power and 910 Nm of torque. It has a slated local price of $141,900 plus on-roads.
Polestar 4 is a mid-sized SUV that made its debut a few months ago at the Shanghai Motor Show. At that time, Polestar shared that the new Polestar 4 will come in two variants and both will have a 102 kWh battery pack.
The single-motor version can do up to 560 km on a single charge, while the dual-motor version comes with up to 400 kW of power. This top-spec variant can do the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds, making it one of the fastest EVs on offer by Polestar.
The details on the new model launches come on the back of the success Polestar has had since starting deliveries of its first EV, the Polestar 2, back in early 2022.
Earlier this week, Polestar also confirmed that it had delivered over 3,000 Polestar 2 electric sedans (or fastbacks) to local customers since those initial deliveries.
“I think by the end of this month we’ll have reached what we achieved [in sales] last year,” says Samantha Johnson, the head of Polestar in Australia. “That’s very exciting for us.“
Polestar sold over 1,500 vehicles in 2022 and will likely surpass that in just the first eight months of 2023.
