A year ago Mercedes-Benz launched its first ground-up electric offering, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 53, in Australia.Ā Now, the luxury car maker has added a more “affordable” variant of the EQS range with the EQS 450 4Matic sedan.
It now comes in over $100,000 cheaper than the previously launched AMG edition, but it will still cost more than $200,000.
The new EQS 450 4Matic is powered by a dual-motor powertrain with 265 kW and up to 800 Nm of torque, making it one of the most-responsive sedans on offer from Mercedes-Benz. This powertrain setup can propel the car fromĀ 0-100 km/h in less than 5.6 seconds.
For comparison, the EQS 53 delivers a total power output of 484 kW and maximum torque of 950 Nm which helps it get to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Equipped with a 107.8 kWh battery pack which is identical to the EQS 53 top-spec variant, the new EQS 450 offers up to 664 km of NEDC range. To charge this large pack, 22 kW of AC charging is on offer along with up to 200 kW of DC charging speeds at the right charger.
On the inside, the EQS 450 4Matic includes:
- 710-watt BurmesterĀ® 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers
- THERMOTRONIC four-zone climate control
- Heated and cooled front seats
- Head-up display
- Premium MBUX navigation with augmented reality (AR) display
- Active ambient lighting with a choice of 64 colours
- Glass panoramic sliding sunroof
- Advanced DIGITAL LIGHT headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus,
- Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC and a 360° camera.
Moving to the inside AMG exterior styling is offered as standard along with a AMG-spec front bumper and side skirts. 21-inch AMG alloys also give the new variant a tougher stance on the road.

On the safety front, Mercedes-Benz has not skimped on the suite of safety features offered in the entry-level EQS which includes:
- The safety-focused Driving Assistance Package Plus includes DISTRONIC Active Distance Assist
- Active Lane Keeping Assist
- Traffic Sign Assist
- Route-based speed adaptation
- Active Traffic Assist
- Active Steering Assist
- Active Lane Change AssistĀ
- PRE-SAFEĀ® Impulse Side accident preparation system
The EQS 450 4Matic starts at $219,900 before on-roads which is over $100,000 cheaper than the flagship EQS 53 AMG 4Matic+ which starts at $327,075.
The new variant can be ordered from now on-wards with first deliveries expected to start in September 2023.
