Latest BYD Seal sighting reveals anticipated safety-tech

The much anticipated BYD Seal has been spotted once again with the latest sighting revealing some of the safety features that can be expected for when the car launches in Australia.

This time, the white Seal was travelling along a busy route along a two-lane road on Friday morning. It was captured by EV fan, Euroa, and shared on X.

The latest sighting shows a close-up of the sleek right-hand-drive test vehicle with flush door handle. One unique detail spotted is the blind-spot monitoring integrated into the side mirrors.

Although common in many vehicles today, it’s not a feature currently offered in Australia’s best-selling electric sedan, the Tesla Model 3.

Other details include the body kit on the lower side skirts which runs along the length of the car. It appears to be a combination of glossy black sections which turns into fin-like patterns heading towards the rear of the car.

This time around, we also get a close-up of the rear under-body diffuser which has three large fins on either side of the number plate, giving the Seal an aggressive look from the rear.

The brand, which has sold over 10,000 Atto 3 electric SUVs so far, is gearing up for other EVs in its range. This BYD Seal is one of the multiple new vehicles BYD aims to launch locally in the coming 12 months.

Last month, EV Directs CEO Luke Todd, who imports the BYD brand into Australia, spoke of these upcoming models.

“With four more BYD models slated for release and delivery in Australia by the end of 2024, the BYD brand will continue its exponential growth,” Todd said.

Given the BYD Seal sedan is one of these expected new models, it has been spotted various times testing across the country this year.

In recent months, the BYD Seal has also been revealed in New Zealand. Across the ditch, the first customer deliveries are slated before the end of this year.

The BYD Seal is being offered in two powertrains which include a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) along with higher specs all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup.

The RWD powertrain in other markets is offered with two battery capacities. The first is the 61.4 kWh battery pack with 450 km of the estimated WLTP range.

Along with that, a long-range variant with the RWD powertrain is equipped with a larger 82.5 kWh battery pack. It is expected to have an estimated WLTP range of up to 570km.

An AWD powertrain is offered in the Performace variant with a larger battery pack. It is expected to offer a range closer to 520 km on the WLTP test cycle. This variant is capable of a sprint time of 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.

The BYD Seal has been one of the most anticipated EVs by the readers of The Driven. With the local testing still being undertaken, it’s likely that an announcement of its official local launch will be made in the coming months.

This would be well received by many who have been patiently waiting for this Seal’s arrival on local shores.
