BYD has achieved a major milestone with its five millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) rolling off the production line earlier this week.
The company celebrated the milestone by holding a ceremony at its Shenzhen headquarters, according to reports from cnevpost.
The five millionth vehicle happened to be one of BYD’s newest NEVs, the Denza N7 SUV. Denza is a sub-brand that’s made up of a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes Benz and focuses on slightly more premium vehicles than BYD-badged cars.
According to the cnevpost report, this Denza N7 was delivered personally by BYD chairman and president, Wang Chuanfu, to a popular Chinese entrepreneur, Luo Zhenyu.
On the back of this ceremony, BYD shared a video on its X account with Chuanfu sharing key highlights of where BYD’s global scale is today. With the brand having entered over 54 countries, Chuanfu thanked its global customer base to help them get there.
The video also highlighted the diverse range of products from the company which dominates the electric bus space in many parts of the world, including the UK, Netherlands and Japan.
The growth for the company has achieved new levels with sales of over 1.3 million units in just 2023 alone and given its multiple sub-brands that it’s recently launched in China along with global expansion plans, it’s bound to exceed sales in the coming months.
BYD started the journey with vehicles back in 2003 and within 20 years, has become one of the leading vehicle manufacturers globally.
In Australia, BYD entered the market with the Atto 3 that now ranks in the top three best-selling EVs in Australia. In 2023 alone, BYD delivered over 7,000 Atto 3 to local customers, averaging more than 1,000 EVs a month.
In the coming 18 months, BYD is planning to deliver multiple new EVs. This includes the Dolphin, Seal and other vehicles that are yet to be announced.
In a recent interview with The Driven, Luke Todd, the CEO of EV Direct who imports BYD, said orders for the sub-$40,000 Dolphin has exceeded expectations.
