Tesla has revealed more details about the unique dimensions of the upcoming Cybertruck. At the company’s Q2 earnings call today, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, shared some insights about the size of the bed on the truck and the garage it could fit inside.
The new Cybertruck will have over a 1.8-meter bed that would be able to fit into a 6-meter-long garage, according to Musk.
“This is the first truck that we are aware that will have four doors, over a six-foot bed and would fit into a 20-foot garage,”
The sizing of the truck also played a big role in the design stage and Musk emphasised on the space that can be expected on the inside:
“It’s the biggest on the outside but is even bigger on the inside. That’s one of the elements of good design. It should feel bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside.”
Musk said production will begin later this year, but said the full production was not likely to occur until 2024, as the company bedded down the numerous technology innovations in the vehicle. There was no mention of price, and no official launch date provided.
“We want to emphasise, that the Cybertruck has a lot of new technology,” Musk said. “It doesn’t look like any other vehicle because it’s not like any other vehicle.”
Analysts on the call also asked about the demand for the Cybertruck, which according to Musk: “The demand is so far off the hook, that you can’t even see the hook.”
The unofficial Cybertruck order reservation tracker estimates more than a million reservations for the product that just had its first unit rolling off the production line last week.
Details of pricing and specifications are still unclear as well but earlier this week, Musk, hinted that the starting price is likely to be under $US50,000. This was a surprise for many of the Cybertruck community and further ramped up the excitement for the steel-bodied Cybertruck.
The hype behind the Cybertruck is unlike any in recent times in the automotive industry, so it would be good to finally see it in customers’ hands in the coming months.
