Use Zoom in your Tesla: Access to third-party apps in the pipeline

US Tesla owners are seeing a new addition in their account settings. Not a Tesla App, a website that covers Tesla news, is reporting that under profile settings there’s now an option for managing third-party applications.

Not a Tesla App says that although third-party apps aren’t yet available through Tesla’s operating system, the company could be close to releasing official support for them.

The new addition is found under security options next to multi-factor authentication under profile settings. Not a Tesla App says the new “Third Party Apps” section appears to be a central location to permit or revoke access to select third parties.

It’s unclear if the option is only seen by US customers at this stage or if owners in other regions like Australia can also see the new update.

“Bringing third-party apps into play could redefine the relationship between Tesla and its user base, paving the way for a more customized, privacy-focused experience.” said Not a Tesla App.

In November last year Zoom announced that its video conferencing app would be available in Tesla vehicles soon. This could be one of the first third party apps available.

Not a Tesla App says that another potential third-party app is Apple Maps EVrouting which allows real-time analysis of your vehicle’s route and battery charge.

The app enables Tesla owners to plan trips via non-Tesla charging stations opening up more route possibilities and improving efficiency. The Apple Maps EVrouting app also has real-time non-Tesla charger availability.

Not a Tesla App says while it’s exciting to see Tesla gearing up for third-party apps, questions remain such as will any company be able to add support and will there be a need for a paid developer account similar to Apple’s platform?
