Earlier this year, Kia revealed its first large 7-seater SUV, the EV9. Now more details of the 5-metre long, three-row all-electric SUV have been released.
Dimensions-wise, it’s larger than Kia Telluride, which is the biggest SUV it sells in the US. It comes in at:
- 5,010 mm in length
- 1,980 mm in width
- 1,755 in height
This provides plenty of legroom for the driver and passengers in the front and rear two rows. There is also lots of legroom for taller drivers due to the higher roof.
Given the EV9 is built on the Hyundai-Kia Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), it ensures good use of space all around.
In terms of storage space in the boot, there is 571 litres of space with all three rows having their seats up. With the seats down, it increases to whopping 2,320 litres.
Remaining on the inside, the second row of seats can be turned around by 180 degrees to face the third row. This along with a panoramic sunroof creates a lounge-like environment for passengers in these rows.
Moving onto the front row of seats, the EV9 offers a 12.3-inch cluster display, a 5-inch segment display and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen to easily access information about the car and it’s controls.
There will also be Over-the-Air (OTA) updates available on this large EV without the need to visit a dealership to receive feature updates.
On the safety front, the EV9 is loaded with technology including 15 sensors for its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Kia Smart Parking and digital keys are also available with the upcoming 7-seater.
While on the road, the EV9 offers 541 km of range on a single charge and with its 800 V architecture, fast charging it from 10-80% can be done in 25 minutes.
The EV9, like other E-GMP vehicles from Kia, offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality allowing the vehicle’s battery to be used as an external power source. According to Kia, 3.68 kW of power from the EV9 can be used to:
- Charge laptops
- Power camping equipment
- Electric grill
- Outdoor projectors
This also removes the need for having Power point in outdoor areas when with the EV9, you can take your power supply with you.
Pricing in South Korea was recently announced on the EV9 as Kia began deliveries of the SUV. The EV9 starts at 78.14 million won which is equivalent to around $A90,000. Australian pricing is expected to be announced closer to the local launch.
With more details coming to light on this large three-row SUV, it’ll be well received by many buyers who currently lack options for a large electric SUV.
