Petrol retailer Ampol will install AmpCharge EV charging bays in multiple Mirvac branded shopping centres around the country, in a first for the company.
Sixty-nine new destination chargers – from trickle to fast charge, will be installed across the Mirvac portfolio, including Broadway Sydney, East Village and Birkenhead Point.
The first installations will take place in late 2023, and will add to Mirvac’s current, smaller collection of EV chargers.
“Since launching fast charges, Mirvac has seen a significant rise in usage of charging stations across the portfolio, with a 60% increase in customer utilisation in the past year,” says Mirvac Retail General Manager Kelly Miller.
“Mirvac’s partnership with Ampol represents a significant milestone in electrification with two major Australian companies coming together to drive the use of more sustainable vehicles. We recognise it is our responsibility to provide our customers with more sustainable solutions and convenient access to green innovation.”
The new high-speed chargers will range between 75 kW and 150 kWs at the different locations, and the energy used will be offset by Large Scale Generation Certificates. A spokesperson for Ampol confirmed to TheDriven that the chargers would be mostly from Swedish-Swiss electrical equipment manufacturer ABB.
Ampol has previously said it wants to become the leading EV charging network operator in Australia by 2030 and committed to deliver over 300 AmpCharge bays at over 100 sites across Australia.
“Ampol continues to build its AmpCharge network so customers can charge with us wherever and whenever they need,” says Brent Merrick, Ampol Executive General Manager, International and New Business.
“This partnership with Mirvac will allow us to expand our offer beyond the forecourt to destinations like Mirvac’s leading property network. We look forward to commencing roll-out of this infrastructure over the coming months.”
Ampol has recently been in hot water from the EV community for increasing their prices from $0.60/kWh to $0.69/kWh.
This will be the first time that Ampol installs EV charging stations outside of its small network of service stations.
