Late last week, BYD teased an upcoming EV to the New Zealand right-hand-drive market. At that time, we guessed that it looked like a BYD Seal under the released cover photo teaser.

Now BYD has revealed the car in the teaser and it is the all-electric Seal that will be coming to New Zealand. On the back of that, the registrations for interest have also opened up on BYD’s New Zealand website.

The local branch of BYD announced the reveal online as well through Facebook by saying:

“Introducing the highly anticipated BYD SEAL! Register your interest here:

Let us know below what you’d like to see on the BYD SEAL”

On the back of this reveal, fans and prospective buyers took to social media to share their thoughts.

“Love the styling of this vehicle.”, one said.

Others commented on what the car is like in person which led them to placing an order there and then: “Amazing car! Even more stunning in the flesh today at its Field days reveal. Thanks Warren for the warm welcome and I am honoured to be the first to commit to purchasing this vehicle. Great to see a well speced, great looking sedan in the EV market at last. Get the pricing right and I’m sure they’ll be a real winner here.”.

The all-electric Sedan was unveiled at Fieldays expo in the country which is also described by the organisers as “Fieldays is the Southern Hemisphere’s largest agricultural event and the ultimate launch platform for cutting edge technology and innovation”.

At the reveal, not a lot of details were shared as the specs and pricing are still being finalised but some key points around the revealed car and first customer deliveries were shared.

The car on display included the performance variant that can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds according to the representative unveiling the car.

That’s also the all-wheel-drive variant with a “3.8S” badge on the rear. However, the badge of the rear was now shown on the video shared by the local arm.

The company representative unveiling the car said that the vehicle for customers who place a deposit at the Fieldays expo are guaranteed a car in the first three shipments.

These shipments are expected to arrive before December meaning that some of the early orders are likely to be fulfilled this year.

The Seal in New Zealand will be available in four colours which weren’t confirmed but are likely to be offered in:

  • Black
  • Blue
  • Grey
  • White

With early details revealed and the first cars expected to arrive before the end of the year, Kiwis will have more options than today.

Australia, BYD has opened up registrations for interest on the BYD Dolphin with more details on pricing and specs to be released next week.

We look forward to seeing those and hopefully another announcement soon after on the Seal for customers down under as well.
