Volvo has revealed its first all-electric small SUV – the  EX30 – and released specs and pricing details for Australian customers.

The launch of the EX30 is the latest step in Volvo’s plans to offer electric only cars in Australia by 2026. It will be offered  in three variants, two single-motor options and one dual-motor performance option that will give many sports car a run for their money.

Because it is a luxury vehicle, headline pricing remains at a premium:

  • Volvo EX30 Single Motor Extended Plus – $59,990
  • Volvo EX30 Single Motor Extended Ultra – $64,990
  • Volvo EX30 Twin Performance Ultra – $69,990

All three locally available variants will come with a 69 kWh battery pack. The single-motor Extended versions will have 200 kW of power and 343 Nm of Torque.

The estimated range from this pack on the single-motor variants is expected to be around 480 km on the WLTP cycle.

“With the EX30 we enter a new, growing segment – the small, fully electric luxury SUV,” said the managing director of Volvo Car Australia, Stephen Connor.

“The EX30 offers a strong value proposition to a new audience in the Australian car market which is increasingly embracing EVs.”

DC fast charging is also on offer with charging from 10-80% in about 30 minutes. The charging speeds are expected to be around 150 kW.

Size-wise, the car is the smallest vehicle Volvo will be offering in Australia. That’s not such a bad thing as there are plenty of buyers looking for a smaller premium electric car. It comes in at:

  • Length – 4,233 mm
  • Width – 1,837 mm
  • Height – 1,555 mm

That’s slightly shorter than the XC40 Recharge currently on offer which comes in at 4,425 mm.

On the outside, the Volvo EX30 has a distinctive look with its ‘Thor’s Hammer’ signature headlight. That sets the Volvos apart from many other vehicles on our roads.

Moving onto the inside there is a single 12.3-inch vertically-mounted display with Google built-in apps along with Wireless Apple Car Play.

This single screen has a minimalistic design as seen in many other cars from Volvo in recent years and this time features a soundbar speaker concept as standard.

This new soundbar integrates tweeters, mid-range speakers and a woofer outlet and covers the full width of the dashboard. That’s expected to offer a new in-car sound experience for owners.

The EX30 is also expected to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates to keep the latest software and a modern ownership experience.

The five-colours locally on offer will include:

  • Onyx Black
  • Moss Yellow
  • Cloud Blue
  • Vapur Grey
  • Crystal White

The Volvo EX30 comes with a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, an 8-year roadside assistance package, an 8-year battery warranty and a 2-year interval servicing.

More details on the local arrival date will be released closer to the launch.
