Australian supermarket giant Woolworths has ordered 25 new electric trucks from Foton Mobility to begin the electrification of its home delivery truck fleet.
Following its announcement last week that it will transition its fleet of home delivery vehicles to electric trucks by 2030, Woolworths says the first of these 25 new electric trucks will be hitting the road this week.
The Foton T5 is a light duty electric truck that was formerly known as the iBlue. The 4.5 tonne Foton T5 is powered by an 82kWh CATL battery and comes backed with a 5-year, 200,000km warranty.
“Our home delivery trucks are a familiar sight in neighbourhoods across Australia and within the next seven years, we want to make every one of them electric and free of fossil fuels,” said Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci in a statement.
“Not only can we help make our suburban streets quieter and cleaner, but we hope to set an example for other businesses to support the growth of Australia’s EV industry.”
