MG4 electric SUV test vehicle spotted in Sydney ahead of arrival

A white MG4 engineering evaluation and testing vehicle has been spotted in Sydney ahead of its official customer deliveries later this year.

It is a parked white MG4 and was spotted by viewer AW, of the Ludicrous Feed YouTube channel, and shared on Twitter.

Not much more is known about this vehicle apart from a sign stuck on the inside showcasing that it’s registered for engineering evaluation.

Looking at the registration records, not a lot is revealed apart from the fact that its registered until March 2024, indicating that it’s potentially been on Australian roads for over two months.

Identifying the variant of this white MG4 is also a bit tricky given no clear badging was seen in the shared photos.

What can be seen though are the wheels that appear to match those found on the base Excite variant. These are the 17-inch alloy wheels with two-tone aero covers.

The Essense and Long Range variants come with larger 18-inch alloy wheels with a different style of rims.

Excite version of the MG4 is one of the cheapest EVs to hit the market in the last couple of years with a starting price of $44,990 before on-road costs.

As part of this price, there is a lot of car on offer including a 64 kWh battery pack that offers up to 450 km of WLTP range.

Fast charging speeds of up to 138 kW are on offer with 10-80% of charge at the right fast charger coming in only 28 minutes.

This battery pack is paired with a 150 kW motor that can get the car to get to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 7.9 seconds.

Unlike the MG ZS EV, the MG4 will be the first to use MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) with a skateboard-like design and a rear-wheel drive powertrain paired with a thinner battery design.

As of June 2023, MG has put an expression of interest form on the MG4 website for those interested in securing a spot in the MG4 order queue.
