Rimac, the Croatian electric hypercar maker, has made history by officially breaking the 0-60 mph production car record with the Nevera EV hypercar.
The $A3.3 million hypercar achieved this feat in under 1.74 seconds.

It did this on road-legal tyres from Michelin, the Michelin Cup 2 R tyres and with its quad-motor powertrain. The production of this hypercar is limited to 150 vehicles.
According to Rimac, Nevera produces 1,400 kW and 2,360 Nm of torque and an official 0-100 km/h acceleration in 1.81 seconds.
The hungry motors in the powertrain are fed by a 120 kWh battery pack that can deliver enough juice to propel this hypercar to a top speed of 412 km/h.
With a 0-60 mph sprint record of 1.74 seconds set by the Nevera, a reply Tweet from Elon Musk on Twitter seem to indicate that Tesla may have something in the works to beat this in the near future.
When asked by Teslaconomics on Twitter if the Tesla Roadster could beat the record set by the Rimac Nevera, Elon Musk replied with a “lol”.

This comes after Elon Musk notified Tesla shareholders at a meeting in Texas last week that the updated Roadster project was still in the works with possible production start early next year.
That news came on the back of Musk flagging two new models with an annual production rate of 5 million units.
Previously when the new Roadster was originally unveiled back in 2017, it had a claimed 0-60 mph of 1.9 seconds. Since 2021, the Model S Plaid with its tri-motor powertrain is claimed to achieve this in 1.99 seconds.
Tesla’s Model S Plaid comes with a price tag of $A163,120 when converted from it’s starting price in the US at the moment.
Tesla has also recently officially confirmed that they will not be selling any right-hand-drive versions of these in Australia.
With a fourth motor in a convertible coupe that is not a large family sedan like the Model S, the new Roadster is looking like a strong candidate to have a go at beating Rimac’s record.
At the unveiling, Elon Musk also mentioned that a higher-performance variant of the Roadster with a SpaceX package would do the 0-60 sprint in a claimed 1.1 seconds.
Whether Tesla Roadster breaks the record in the near future is yet to be seen. In the meantime, the team at Rimac have truly created a remarkable hypercar.
