New drone footage on YouTube from a Texas-based drone operator and factory build enthusiast, Joe Tegtmeyer, has highlighted the huge front Cybertruck castings being prepared for the GigaTexas factory where it will be built.
The drone footage shows the castings located behind one of GigaTexas factory’s roller doors. The large castings are being manufactured as part of a pilot production line that is set up at the factory.
The castings look to be much larger and more angular compared to the Model Y castings and appear to be manufactured using the large 9,000 Tonne Gigapress that Tesla started taking deliveries in December.
For comparison, Tesla uses a 6,000 tonne gigapress for the Model Y.
At that time, Joe also captured the Gigapress arrive in pieces.
Last month, Elon Musk on the Q1 earnings call noted that the Cybertruck’s first delivery event is expected to be later in Q3 this year:
“Well I think we will save that for the Cybetruck handover which will hopefully be at the end of Q3 this year”
This was further confirmed with sightings of Cybertruck with a massive wiper being wind tunnel tested outside GigaTexas latter half of April.
The sightings of the Cybertruck in recent months have increased rapidly as more real-world testing is being done and with a vehicle this size and design, it’d be pointless to try and camouflage it.
This in itself is creating a high level of anticipation amongst order holders and the Tesla community for what’s to come when the production actually starts in the coming months.
With Tesla’s shareholder meeting later this week, it’s likely that we will receive an update on how the Cybertruck production line is shaping and whether Q3 deliveries are still on track for US customers.
