Volkswagen teases first look at ID.7 GTX electric limousine

German automaker Volkswagen has teased the first oblique photos of its upcoming ID.7 GTX electric sports sedan which the company is planning to premiere at the IAA Mobility trade show in September.

Volkswagen unveiled the ID.7 in April, a so-called “all-electric limousine” thanks to its length of nearly 5 metres that nevertheless will boast a range of up to 700km (WLTP).

Built on the company’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB), the ID.7 is expected to first be launched in Europe and China in 2023, and North America in 2024.

Volkswagen has now given us the first glimpse of the upcoming GTX version of the ID.7, making this the third model in the company’s all-electric ID series to boast a GTX model.

In true carmaker style, Volkswagen have only given us a single image with oblique shots of the tail, drivers-side mirror, and front left headlight.

Like the previous GTX models for the ID.4 and ID.5, the vehicle dynamics manager on the ID.7 GTX will be responsible for intelligent control of the dual-motor all-wheel drive system, which “always aims to achieve the optimum combination of efficiency, dynamics and driving stability.”

“The vehicle dynamics manager controls not only the powertrain, but also all braking, steering and chassis control systems, depending on the selected driving profile,” the company said.

It added that “running gear and steering have been fundamentally enhanced on the basis of the modular electric drive (MEB) platform and offer a large bandwidth between comfort and sportiness thanks to the possibility of driving profile selection.”

Black and red design highlights represent the GTX moniker, with red contrast stitching on the seats, dash panel, and doors, and black gloss elements on the exterior and the standard black roof paint finish.
